"I just feel like it's my calling"
Meet Danielle
I’m just doing my part you know? I guess some would say a bit more than my part, but I just feel it’s my calling. And this one special dog led me to it.
For me, it was just one dog years ago....Taz. I have had severe anxiety and depression all my life. My dog Taz saved me; and in his memory, I do this work.
After doing general rescue (once having 63 dogs!), my focus shifted to older and disabled dogs in overpopulated local animal shelters.......the dogs least likely to be adopted. Dogs that were abandoned by owners, left behind, dumped on the street, or turned in to shelters because they were "too old". Alone, abandoned....some of the stories could break you. They deserve better from the people who had them when they were younger.
When they get to DREAMS, their lives begin anew...
I've had a little wiener dog that was 19; and chihuahuas that lived to be 21 and 22 years-old.
A pit bull who surprisingly made it to 18 when I thought he had only a couple of months in him.
Another had such bad arthritis I thought, “she doesn't have but three or four months”. She lived about three years and ran like she had three or four years knocked off, just being on CBD oil.
I'm a big believer in holistic treatment, especially at end of life. I give them massages, physical therapy and make weekly batches of turmeric golden paste (freshly made turmeric and coconut oil black pepper) which I put in all the dogs’ food for inflammation and arthritis. All the kids get the turmeric as a kind of precaution. The cancer dogs and the dogs with arthritis get CBD oil.
"For some it's just too late and for some, with the right love and care, they just will themselves to go on. Just when you don't think they have anything left in them."
